Talent 1 Media is proud to hold a special benefit event to support the efforts of Rapha House. On Friday June 18th, the 5th Annual Talent 1 Media Film Festival will feature a special presentation and opportunity for our attendees to learn more about the Rapha House and how to actively be involved in their amazing initiatives! Proceeds from the benefit event will go towards Rapha House. Our special guest Kerry Decker will be sharing with us the heart of their organization and some amazing stories happening daily at the Rapha House facilities in Cambodia.

Rapha House exists to love, rescue, and heal children who have been rescued out of slavery and sexual exploitation. Operating as a 501(c)3, Rapha House began in 2003 to permeate cultures with love that heals and leads to restoration. Rapha House does this by providing safehomes and aftercare programs for young girls who have been rescued out of slavery and exploitative situations. All Rapha House homes are currently located in Southeast Asia, with the goal of expanding globally.

Rapha House programs include reintegration programs, safe house programs, and prevention programs. Every member of the Rapha House staff has dedicated his or herself to seeing each child at Rapha House restored to sustainable freedom. In order to achieve this, staff members work constantly to provide an environment of physical rescue from abuse and neglect for girls who have known severe exploitation. All the programs at Rapha House have the goal of creating an environment of transformational healing so that every child has the chance to have a healthy future.

Slavery still exists in every culture. Rapha House is constantly partnering with advocates in an effort to build communities that extend unconditional love, physical rescue, and transformational healing.

Talent 1 Media is proud to bring you a special performance by Melanoid after T1M Film Program 4. Melanoid will be on the JACCC outdoor stage at 9:30pm immediately following our last film program.

Simple one of the best bands in Los Angeles and a debut album with an incredible production force, Orange County based indie rock band, Melanoid, brings no mystery as to why they are being courted by labels large and small. Right off the top, you will hear influences of Radiohead, shares of Beattles, and Elliott smith. Asleep In The Wake is easily one of the best albums of 2009 (and now!). CALL+RESPONSE is a first of its kind feature documentary film that reveals the world’s 27 million dirtiest secrets: there are more slaves today than ever before in human history. CALL+RESPONSE goes deep undercover where slavery is thriving from the child brothels of Cambodia to the slave brick kilns of rural India to reveal that in 2007, Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined.

Luminaries on the issue such as Cornel West, Madeleine Albright, Daryl Hannah, Julia Ormond, Ashley Judd, Nicholas Kristof, and many other prominent political and cultural figures offer first hand account of this 21st century trade. C+R has given people many ways to get involved in the issue that are easy and simple for anyone to try.  It’s a very heavy impacting film with lots of amazing artists but the film and movement really lives up to it’s name; There are many opportunities to respond interactively on their website.  Great work!  Call+Response will be out on DVD sometimes in the future but before that, you can check their listings of screenings happening all over the U.S. and additional dates in Canada.  Check here for screening dates and locations.

A couple months ago, Hollywood power couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher launched their DNA Foundation which aims to end human trafficking through awareness and public involvement on the issue.  Kutcher is known for being an internet media short-form king and he uses his skills once again through tools like Twitter to send the message.  If you can make awareness a cool thing, or at least start out as a fad and gain activists, we are all for it.  I’m sure we are all interested to see what they do next and how they will accomplish their goals.  There is also a lot of collaboration and partnerships involved with established organizations.  From their site:

Demi and Ashton hope to help abolish modern day slavery, punish perpetrators and free the many innocent and exploited victims. The DNA Foundation is committed to protecting the freedom of the world’s most vulnerable citizens by forcing sex slavery out of the shadows and into the spotlight. In other recent news, Lindsay Lohan jumped on board with a documentary shot entirely in India with the BBC.  It’s pretty incredible what these celebrities can do with just their actions.  Hopefully many people are becoming aware of the issues despite her reputation.  There are many celebrities that are becoming aware and taking action. That energy and publicity can definitely be used to change the lives of slaves around the world.
